J. Clinton Shepherd (1888–1975) was an American illustrator, painter, and sculptor celebrated for his depictions of Western subjects, frontier narratives, and Americana. A graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago, he contributed illustrations to major publications including Collier’s, The Saturday Evening Post, and Harper’s, which helped establish his national reputation. His paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, and the Brooklyn Museum, and his Western works have been handled by respected Western-art galleries and appear in notable private Western and Americana collections.
